Vacation theme at Ruby's Rainbow Challenge 109!

It is summer time and for most that means VACATION!  At Ruby’s Rainbow Challenges our theme is to create a project that celebrates vacations or travel.

I was totally inspired by a few things in my stash to create a fun little card for the theme.  Sizzix’s Airmail embossing folder by Tim Holtz created a base layer for the card.  It is pressure embossed on Kraft card stock and inked with Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black.  The suitcase is a fun die cut set by Quickutz that makes such a cute little suitcase!  The Travel Phrases images are by Scrappy Cat and are stamped in Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black on neutral card stock then fussy cut to fit the grungy theme of the card.  The U.S. outline is another old school Quickutz die cut, which was pressure embossed with Quickutz Goosebumps Dots.  I have a few of these Goosebumps mini folders and they are great for adding texture to small die cuts.  The finishing embellishments are Studio Calico Wood Veneers in the travel theme.  An A2 sized cream card stock base is layered with the Airmail design and a section of Recollections Burlap.  The various embellishments are adhered with glue dots.

This really fun card came together in about 30 minutes from concept to completion.  I spent the most time die cutting the cute suitcase and assembling it.  Come on over to Ruby’s RainbowChallenges and see what the rest of the Design Team has created to inspire you for this challenge.  Join along in the fun and link up your own project, it doesn’t have to be a card!

Birthday Card for Retro Rubber Blog Color Challenge 19

For the next two weeks we have a fun color challenge over at Retro Rubber Blog Challenge.  Check it out!  Aren’t these great summer colors?

I went through my card stock color scraps and found just the right colors to create this feminine Birthday card.

The sentiment is so old I don’t know who made it, only that is once was on a foam square and is purple rubber!  Probably one of those small sets I bought a Michael’s more than 20 years ago.  It is stamped in Tsukinkeo Versa Magic Red Magic on the light green card stock.  The Spellbinder’s Labels Eight was centered over the stamped image and die cut and pressure embossed.  Red card stock was die cut and pressure embossed with Spellbinder’s Decorative Labels Eight.  The darker blue card stock was pressure embossed with Cuttlebug’s Bit of Paisley.  Spellbinder’s Classic Bracket cut the red card stock accent, and the light blue card stock is the edge of the largest size of the Spellbinder’s Decorative Labels Eight.  I like to use die to cut more than just the intended shape, as in this case a decorative edge.  The light green card stock is stamped with a stamp set Flourishes v. 2 by Rhonna Farrer and manufactured by Autumn Leaves.  It has been in my stash around 10 years.  The images are stamped with Tsukinkeo Versa Magic Red Magic and the edges are inked to finish the look of the card.  All the layers are adhered to the base card with the sentiment adhered with dimensional foam adhesive.

It is always lovely to have a few Birthday Cards ready to send and this challenge was the impetus to create a pretty card!  Please come on over to Retro RubberBlog Challenge and check out what other creations the design team have created to inspire you to use these summery colors to create something beautiful.  Give your forgotten but formerly loved retro rubber a little time on your craft table and play along!

Birthday ATC for ABAC Anything Goes Challege

For this month’s challenge Anything Goes at Anything But a Card I am sharing an Artist Trading Card I created as part of a birthday swap.  I enjoy being part of a variety of forums that discuss paper crafting.  One such forum is Rubberstampchat, there are a few folks from Making Memories forum days, plus a bunch of fun new stamping friends.  I joined the birthday ATC swap as a way to share my art and learn new techniques at the same time.  Swaps are great fun!

Many of my ATC’s start with remnants of previous projects that have graced my craft table; and this one uses a left-over flower from this project created as an entry for the Design Team at Heartfelt Creations.  I enjoy creating handmade flowers with their dies and stamps.  The flower uses Sun Kissed Fleur die and Striped Precut sets on orange card stock.  The center is Suze Winberg’s Mini Mosaics in Blue Ice, which I have owned for about 15 years; it is fun to use great items from my stash to complete a new project!  The leaves are stamped on green card stock.

Heartfelt Creations Sun Kissed Fluer papers were die cut with Spellbinders Labels Eight and Decorative Labels Eight to back the flower.  Studio G’s Happy Birthday is stamped in Tsukineko Encore Ultimate metallic Blue and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The finished card is mounted to a blue card stock ATC (2 ½” x 3 ½”).

Thanks for stopping by and please do enter the Anything Goes challenge at Anything But a Card!

Ruby's Rainbow Challenge 108 Asian Themed Card

I recently was invited to join Ruby’s Rainbow Challenge Blog, and was able to select the theme for our challenge this fortnight.  I choose an Asian theme as my senior year of high school was spent as an exchange student to Japan.  Traditional Asian art is beautiful with it's bright colors and nature inspired themes.

For my card I started with Stamp Camp’s Three Japanese Beauties stamped in Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black on white card stock.  I planned the color scheme around a sheet of origami paper by Yasumoto Fold ‘ems Folkart.  Chameleon Pens in the following colors were used to color the image:  YL2 Summer Sun, OR4 Seville Orange (blended over the Summer Sun), RD4 Crimson Red, GR3 Grass Green, and VO4 Deep Violet.  The edges of the card stock are inked with Tsukineko Versa Magic Red Magic.  The origami paper and image are adhered to a yellow card stock base.  The kanji characters mean “harmony” and are Quickutz die cut from the same yellow card stock as the base card.  The kanji are adhered with Sakura Quickie glue pen. The Judi-kens Paper Cords Cool is tied in a classic Mizukiki cord decorative knot.  Using a little google magic I found this Youtube video in Japanese on how to use Mizuhiki cord.  The knot is adhered with tiny glue dots.

Please come and play along with our Asian Challenge at Ruby’s Rainbow Challenge Blog and enter your project by July 19th.

Sending Smiles Retro Rubber Blog Challenge 18

For the next two weeks our challenge over at Retro Rubber is fun sketch.  I wanted to create a bright summery card to send to a friend and this is what I created!

My card stock scraps provided all the colors to match the bright ribbon.  I wanted the smiley face to be the classic yellow color, so I incorporated that into the sketch.  I once had a very favorite dress I wore in 7th and 8th grade; it was peasant style made from large smiley face fabric.  Just remembering that wonderful dress from the 70’s makes me smile!  I think my brother wore it for a Halloween costume when he dressed up as a girl!

The sentiment and smiley face are from the Technique Tuesday’s Sending Smiles set.  The complementing circles are Fiskar’s Layer Aways Dots and Layer Away Variety.  I used a Spellbinder’s Standards Circles Large to die cut the smiley face.  All Night Meida’s 5/8” punch and Marvy’s ¾” punch provided the embellishment circles.  I used Tsukineko Memento Luxe Love Letter was used to stamp and ink edges on all but the smiley face, which is done in Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  After adhering the top layers together, I used Thermo-web Zips to adhere the ribbon.  The layered circles are adhered directly to the base, with the next layer adhered with dimensional foam adhesive.  The smiley face is also on a dimensional foam dots.

This sketch is a great jumping off point for a fun card.  Come play along with RetroRubber Blog Challenge and share your creation by July 17th.
