Paper Piecing Coffee Talk

What a fun challenge, paper piecing with your favorite stamp!  Please stop by and visit Ruby’s RainbowChallenges and see the wonderful cards made by the talented Design Team.

I do not own many open style stamps, but the Heartfelt Creations Coffee Talk collection was perfect for this challenge.  Love the little coffee cups and the stamp sentiment was the impetus to make two coordinating cups to feature in paper piecing.

1.     Stamp Coffee Talk cup image four times on coordinating paper selections from the collection in Versa Fine Majestic Blue and die cut with Coffee Talk die.
2.     Use Ink Potion No. 9 and Brilliance Pearlescent Sky Blue and a Fantastix brush tip to color the flowers and loops on the cups. I am really pleased that the photo shows the pearlescent look of the Brilliance ink, bright sunlight will do that for your photo!
3.     Fussy cut the tops of the cups and adhere into place.
4.     Stamp Coffee Talk cup image twice on Kraft cardstock and Versa Fine Vintage Sepia and fussy cut the coffee portion of the image.  Adhere to the coffee cups.
5.     Select a frame from the paper collection and die cut center section with Cut, Mat, Create 1B die.
6.     Select another paper and lay frame in place to determine position of sentiment image.  Stamp All Stacked Up sentiment stamp in Versa Fine Vintage Sepia.
7.     Adhere background paper to Kraft card base.  Adhere frame with thin dimensional foam adhesive.  Adhere coffee cups on bottom edge with one layer of thin dimensional foam adhesive, and at the top with two layers of thin dimensional foam adhesive.

First Mother’s Day Layout

Time for another challenge at Retro Rubber Blog Challenge and this time it is Anything Goes!  Do stop by the RRBC and check out the Design Team’s lovely creations.

I have been planning this layout for several months and just had not taken the time to get it done!  My two boys were adopted from Russia at ages ten and almost four.  This layout documents their first Mother’s Day with our family.

Since it was a very special day for me, I wanted to use some of my favorite stamps, dies and papers, Sun Kissed Fleur by Heartfelt Creations.  This is the first “I want it all” purchase I made when it was first released in May of 2013.  So glad I did as I have really enjoyed using the entire collection.  I plan on scrapping this page in triplicate, one for my book and one each for the boy’s albums so I didn’t want to use the paper collection as the background paper.  I like how the double-sided papers give you lots of options!

1.     Trim two sets of two of accent paper to 3” x 8 ½”, and one set of two to 3” x 8”.
2.     Trim gold accent color cardstock to 1” x 12” and die cut with Heartfelt Creations Border Essentials.  It can be easily lined up to create a continuous 12” die cut.  Add sections of die cut to the short accent papers and to the 5” x 6 ½” focal photo.  (Trimmed from a 5” x 7”)
3.     Stamp two sets of Heartfelt Creations Sun Kissed Fleur stamp in Brilliance Pearlescent Ivy and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.  Die cut with Sun Kissed Fleur die.  Color with Fantastix brush tip, Ink Potion No. 9, and Memento Luxe in Morocco, Dandelion, and Pear Tart.  Shape flowers and leaves and assemble with Dries Clear Glue and add Suze Weinburg’s Mini Mosaics in Cracked Corn to the centers of the flowers.
4.     The journal block was cut out from behind where one of the accent papers is mounted and trimmed to 1 3/8” x 6 ½”.  The journaling is done in my go to permanent marker, Zig in Hunter Green.
5.     Die cut title from gold cardstock with Quickutz (Lifestyle Crafts) Ginger font.
6.     Assemble page and adhere in place.

Supplies:
·      Heartfelt Creations:  Sun Kissed Fleur Paper Collection, die, and stamp set, Border Essentials.
·      Quickutz (aka Lifestyle Crafts) Ginger font
·      Imagine Crafts:  Brilliance Pearlescent Ivy, Memento Luxe-Morocco, Dandelion, Pear Tart, Ink Potion No. 9, Fantastix brush tip
·      Zig Permanent maker-Hunter Green, Two-Way Glue
·      Suze Weinburg’s Mini Mosaics Cracked Corn

The Earth Laughs in Flowers

Here in Central Oregon I am still waiting for my daffodils to bloom . . . so it is fun to work with stamps and dies to create beautiful flowers to enjoy.  Our challenge this fortnight at Ruby’s Rainbow Challenge is to create project with flowers.

I decided I should play with one of my oldest flower dies, the Spellbinders Blossom Three, which I purchased because Heartfelt Creation’s Flora Grande 1 & 2 was designed to create lovely flowers.  It was the beginning of a great thing!

1.     Stamp the four smallest Flora Grande images in Encore Ultimate Metallic Silver on light purple cardstock and heat emboss with Creations Unlimited embossing powder in Mystic Rainbow.  Die cut images and ink the edges with a sponge dauber and Radiant Neon Electric Purple.  Snip the petals apart and shape flowers and adhere layers together.
2.     Stamp Bella Rose and Leaves with Encore Ultimate Metallic Green on dark green card stock and heat emboss with Creations Unlimited embossing powder in Mystic Rainbow.  Sponge Brilliance Pearlescent Ivy  ink over the embossed areas and die cut with the Bella Rose die.  Shape leaves.  Snipe into 3 sections to apply to the card.
3.     Trim light green card stock to 4 ¾” x 6 ¼” and pressure emboss with Cuttlebug Bit of Paisley.  Sand raised areas to bring out texture.
4.     Stamp Heartfelt Creations Tarnished Gear “Happy Birthday” in Radiant Neon Electric Purple on light green card stock and heat emboss with Creations Unlimited embossing powder in Mystic Rainbow.  Trim into a banner shape and sand edges.  Back with dark purple card stock and trim.
5.     Adhere layers to a 6 Bar (5” x 6 ½”) size dark purple card stock base.  Use glue dots and dimensional foam adhesive to raise some sections.  Tie a small multi-looped bow from fiber and adhere to the bottom of the sentiment panel.
6.     Add Dries Clear adhesive to the center of the followers and sprinkle Suze Weinburg’s Mini Mosaics in Evergreen and set aside to dry.  Shake excess off after the glue is set.

It's Easter!

It’s Easter!

Just in time to celebrate Easter our challenge at RetroRubber Challenge Blog is to make a project that is Easter related.  All we ask is that your stamps be older than a year (tell us how long they’ve been hanging in your stash) and that you link up to the challenge.  Check out the fun creations of the Design Team over at Retro Rubber

Card in open position
This cute image of the reclining bunny just cried out for a flip card design.  I received these images in Jan of 2015 as a gift.  So they are just over a year old.  The patterned paper has been in my stash forever and was used on a layout for Easter several years ago, so the scraps have been in my card making scrap box.

Front of the card

1.     Die cut base with Sizzix Card Square Flip-Its 2 from light blue card stock.  Die cut patterned paper pieces for accent.  Ink edges with Versa Magic Aegean Blue.
2.     Trim white card stock to 2 3/8” x 2 3/8” and stamp Great Impressions Bunny with Versa Fine Onyx Black and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.  Repeat for the reverse image.  Use a sponge dauber to ink around image with Versa Magic Pixie Dust and ink edges with Versa Magic Aegean Blue.
3.     Stamp chick on white card stock with Versa Fine Onyx Black and heat emboss with clear embossing powder and trim to size.
4.     Color craft mat or plastic surface with Memento Dual Marker in Angel Pink, London Fog, Tangelo, Cantaloupe, and Bamboo Leaves and pick up color with Nishi water pen.  Lightly water color images.  Set aside to dry.
5.     Add a same dab of Amplify! in White and heat set for the bunny’s little cotton tail.
6.     Stamp Hero Arts CL 1498 (also a 2015 release) on white card stock in Versa Magic Aegean Blue and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.  Trim sentiment.
7.     Ink edges of chick and sentiment with Versa Magic Aegean Blue.  Adhere chick and sentiment to light pink card stock and trim.
8.     Adhere patterned paper and images to card base and enjoy!

Please come and join the challenge and share your own card with us at Retro Rubber Blog Challenge!

Celebrate Women's Day, Happy Mother's Day

We have a wonderful challenge at Ruby’s Rainbow Challenges, Celebrate Women’s Day.  When this challenge was chosen I knew exactly what image I wanted to use for the focal point of my card, a silhouette of a woman’s face by Judikins that I have owned for probably 18-20 years.  Isn’t she lovely on this Mother’s Day card?  Mother’s Day will soon be celebrated across the pond in the UK, but we still have more than two months before it is celebrated in the US.  Please mom, don’t look!  You will spoil your surprise!

1.     The aforementioned Judikins silhouette of a woman’s face is stamped on Art Quest Pure Mica Embossing Tiles in Imagine Crafts Brilliance Starlight Black and heat embossed with detail jet black embossing powder.
2.     Using a water brush and a ruler, washi paper is torn to 4 ¾” x 6 ¼”, then it is set aside to dry.
3.     Light pink card stock is die cut with Spellbinders Carnation Creations (one of my first flower dies) and stamped with the matching Heartfelt Creations Carnation Florals 2 Pre-cut set in Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.
4.     The flowers were spritzed with water, crumpled and shaped then set aside to dry.
5.     Light pink card stock is die cut with Heartfelt Creations Fluer Border and Pockets, one of my latest additions to my HC stash.  I was able to carefully line up two separate dies to create a one-piece die cut.  Small black pearls were added to the centers of the small flourishes.
6.     A strip of burlap is adhered to the background die cut, with a section of 1/8” dark pink ribbon adhered over the center of the burlap.
7.     Spellbinders Petite Ovals small is die cut from light pink card stock and pressure embossed.  Before the die is removed Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid is sponged in the center of the die cut with an ink blusher.  The ink is set with a heat gun.
8.     Hero Arts CL498 “Happy Mother’s Day” is stamped in Brilliance Starlight Black and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.
9.     The washi paper, background die cut, and silhouette face are adhered to a Kraft card stock base in 6 Bar size.  The edge of the Pure Mica Embossing tile is secured under the background die cut.
10.  A scrap bit of shear pink ribbon is tied in a loop with 1/8” dark pink ribbon and adhered to the card base with glue dots.
11.  The flowers are assembled with brads (as there are holes in the centers) and pearls are adhered over the tops of the brads.  The flowers are adhered into place with glue dots.
12.  Recollections Adhesive Faux Pearls are dissected and added to the sentiment die cut and along the bottom section.
13.  The sentiment is adhered with dimensional foam adhesive.

I am really pleased with how bits and pieces came together to create this lovely card.  It was fun to use items from my stash, silhouette image, washi paper and Pure Mica Embossing Tiles, that I have owned for at least 18 years!  Paper crafting supplies never go out of style!  Make your own creation and share it with us at Ruby’s Rainbow Challenges.

·      Imagine Crafts:  Brilliance Starlight Black and Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid, ink blusher.
