Winter Blue Ombre' with Retro Rubber

As I mentioned in the last Retro Rubber Challenge, the design team came up with challenges for the year.  This just happens to be my color challenge--choosen because of the colors outside the windows of my new home in Northern Minnesota.  We are so fortunate to live on a lake and watch the seasons change through our windows.  Right now the lake is frozen and covered with snow.  During a snow storm we cannot see across the lake!

Two different stamps were used in the creation of my card.  The first is Winter Aspen by Ann-ticipations in 1996.  The second is a Dots Cube from Neato Stuff made in 1991.  Did I tell you that the only stamps that have made the move so far are my wood mounted stamps?  So these are some of the first stamps in my huge collection!  I really enjoyed making this card and using SUPER DUPER Retro Rubber!

  • The ombre' background was created with Ink Daubers and the following inks:  Versa Color Baby Blue, Versa Color Smoke Blue, Versa Fine Clair Fantasia, and Versa Color Indigo.  The base was heated to cure the ink before the next steps.
  • The Winter Aspen was stamped in Versa Fine Clair Nocturne.
  • Versa Magic Cloud White was directly inked to portions of the Aspens and White Embossing Powder was heat embossed.
  • The Neato Dots Cube has several different sizes, I started with the smaller dots on the bottom of the card and worked my way up to the top stamping in Versa Magic Cloud White.  White embossing powder made the "snow" pop on the card.
  • The card front was die cut with MFT Die Namics Wonky Stitched Rectangles.
  • The sentiment is an Echo Park Sentiment Die with three layers.

A wonderful wintery hello!  Let us see what you can create with the winter ombre' pallate.

Time to start the New Year with Retro Rubber Challenge

The Design Team put our heads together and came up with some really fun challenges for this year, our Tenth year!  Do come and play along with us at Retro Rubber Challenge Blog.

Across most of North America we are experiencing extreme cold and winter storms.  This is the perfect time to stay inside and play with your retro stamps.  Mine is a wood-mounted Snowflake image by Peddler's Pack from 1998.

  • This card was the second try, using the stamp to convey the feel of the challenge.  Since the snowflakes are actually in relief with the surrounding being the stamp it was best to ink the stamp up in Memento Luxe' Grey Flannel and Versa Color Baby Blue.
  • Heat embossing with Imagine Crafts Iridescent embossing powder added to the glitz.
  • Some of the areas were inked directly with Versa Color Baby Blue.
  • The image was trimmed to size and adhered to the front of an A2 sized white card that was also inked in Versa Color Baby Blue.
  • It is the time of year to send thank you cards, so the finishing touch is a die cut from Poppy Stamps made in 2017.
  • Three die cuts were adhered together then inked with Delicata Sapphire Blue and heat embossed with Imagine Crafts Iridescent embossing powder.

Share with us your "winter fun" make!  With the cold weather it is the perfect time to stay inside and play with ink and paper!  You can join us here.
