Under the Sea with Retro Rubber

Our current challenge at Retro Rubber Challenge Blog is under the sea!  Most of my recent paper crafting has been scrapping a cruise I went on with my dear husband for our 20th Anniversary!  But none of those layouts are "under the sea"!   For the majority of my layouts it is all above the ocean action.

 Then I remembered I had this super cute Shark Pudgie released in June 2017.  There are a "few" cute images I like playing with, and this is one.  It will stick around for awhile longer, while others get purged.  

• The background is super simple, a foam brayers with Kaleidacolor in Blue Breeze.  The wave die cut is adhered over the top to create white waves.
• The shark is die cut, then the stamp is carefully inked and the die cut placed over it to get the inked areas on the die cut.  It is really hard to line up and get a good image by stamping first.  The shark is stamped once on the die cut and a second time on white cardstock.  The white cardstock is trimmed to fit behind the shark die cut.  The stamped eyes show through the holes and give the image a bit of a cartoon eye look.  Plus the teeth show up white.
• The outline of the shark is die cut through the background.
• A sentiment from the set is stamped and die cut in a circle.  Kaleidacolor's darkest ink in Blue Breeze is used to stamp the sentiment, and the lightest color to ink the edges.  
• The background and card base corners are rounded and the entire card is adhered together.  

 I think he's pretty cute and not scary at all!

Merry Christmas Warm Wishes for Retro Rubber

 Our last challenge of the year, and I am a bit late posting!  Please do check out the rest of the wonderful designs by the Retro Rubber Design Team. 

I had some fun with very old Hot Off The Press papers and a sketch from Callmecraftyal Sheetload.  

• The Stamps of Life Hotcocoa die and hotchocolate2Stamp from November of 2017 where used to create the cocoa mug and whip cream.  
• The whip cream is stamped on white cardstock with Memento Tuxdeo, then die cut.  
• The Mug is stamped on red glossy cardstock with StazOn Jet Black and die cut.  Memento Luxe Wedding White is stamped in the center of the mug and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  
• A standard A2 card base has the layers of patterned paper layered along with green cardstock to finish the sketch.

The 70's Color Challenge at Retro Rubber

 What fun, time to revisit the 70's color scheme at Retro Rubber.  I actually do remember the Avocado Green shag carpet in our home and the Harvest Gold appliances in our kitchen.   

For my card I used the color scheme to designed a birthday card for my niece who enjoys succulents.  A quick search through my scraps I found a great patterned paper of orange and brown and jumped off from there.  All of the cardstock was also from the scrap folders.  Economy in card making!

• Brown cardstock is trimmed to 5.25" x 3", the patterned paper is trimmed to 2.75' x 5.125" and adhered to the left edge of an A-2 size card base.
• Gold cardstock is trimmed 4.125" x 3.125", and cream cardstock is trimmed to 3.875" x 2.875".  Both layers are adhered to the card base offset from the patterned paper layer.
• The Stamps of Life Succulents2stamp from 2008 is used to stamp the sentiment in the upper right corner in Memento Luxe Olive Grove.  
• The flower pot is die cut with the die from the set Succulents2stamp set.  Brown, gold, and cream cardstock.  The pattern on the rim is stamped in Memento Luxe Olive Grove and the edges are inked.  
• The round succulent is stamped in Memento Luxe Olive Grove and shaded with Memento Dual Tip Marker in Pear Tart.  The flower is colored with Memento Dual Tip Marker in Cantaloupe.  The additional die cut is from the coordinating Succulents 2 set.
• The succulents are adhered to the back of the pot, and the layers of the pot are adhered together before adding it to the card.

Love, Love, Love for Retro Rubber

 It is time to make Valentines or a card that celebrates love!  Come join us at Retro Rubber Challenge blog and get inspired!

I've had this stamp from Pink Fresh since 2019 and have only inked it once.  I thought it gave the vibe of the sentiment I choose to embellish the card.

• Card base is Kraft Cardstock in A-2 size.  The remainder of the sheet was used to stamp the focal image.
• The image is stamped in Memento Luxe Wedding Dress and heat embossed in Creations Unlimited Silver Satin Pearl.  A subtle color over the Kraft cardstock, but really shimmery in person.  The image is trimmed to 3.75" x 5"
• A bit of red glitter cardstock is trimmed to 4" x 5.25".  From the center  of the glitter panel The Stamps of Life Love You Circle die is die cut to created the x o circle.  A Spellbinders Small circle was used to remove the center of the circle.
• Scrapbook.com's XOXO sentiment set from January 2019 is used to stamp the sentiment in Memento Luxe Wedding Dress and heat embossed in Creations Unlimited Silver Satin Pearl.  Paper Studio Fish Tail punch is used to finish the banner.
• Since the red glitter cardstock showed a bit of white when trimmed with a paper trimmer, so the edges were inked in StazOn Jet Black.
• The layers are adhered together with the sentiment added with dimensional foam adhesive.

Transportation theme for Retro Rubber

 So here we are closing in on the end of summer.  Our theme at Retro Rubber is transportation, and as you will notice by the Design Team's cards, any type will do!

 

I have a stamp set from Unity Stamp Company that I purchased back in 2013, "Consider yourself vintage" that was perfect for this challenge.  Using The Stamps of Life Oval Grid die set made very quick work of putting together  card with visual interest.

 

 

• The car image is stamped on white cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black, along with the sentiment.
• The oval die is centered around the car and die cut.
• The sentiment trimmed to size.
• The grid portion is die cut from two sets of patterned paper, Most likey by Essential Paperz, but it was in my "card making" scrap tote, and have no idea how long it's been around.  But it works perfectly with this image!  (Bonus:  I have the outline, and grid pieces to make at least 3 more cards!
• Black cardstock is trimmed and adhered to the card front.  
• I used a centering ruler to center and adhere the image oval with thin dimensional foam adhesive.
• The grid pieces are alternated and adhered to the black cardstock.
• The card needed a little pop of color so the sentiment is backed with a scrap of red cardstock and adhered with thicker dimensional foam adhesive.

Monster Valentine

One last Valentine to share . . . this one for our resident 14 year old male child.  Nothing to mushy for for the teenager!

I had a hard time deciding what kind of critter I wanted to use . . . so went looking through my stash and found these fun monsters from The Stamps of Life released in May 2017.

• Searching through my stash of past mixed media experiments I found a sample of Amplify by Imagine the mixed Radiant Neon Electric Pink and Black.  It was rolled out onto cardstock then heated with a heat tool to have a slightly raised textured surface.  I die cut the three monsters plus a backing of black cardstock with the dies from Monster4Celebrations.  One monster has his features penned in with a Zig marker.  
• Additional die cut pieces add the tongues inked with Radiant Neon Electric Pink ink, and white for the teeth.  I had three different sizes of googly eyes in my stash that worked perfectly!
• The sentiment is Hero Arts CL498 Celebrate Every Day stamped on black cardstock and heat embossed with Think Ink Magenta Bright Light embossing powder.  
• The background is pressure embossed with Sizzix Hearts and Dots and then inked with Radiant Neon Electric Pink ink.  
• The card base edges are inked with Delicata Black Shimmer.
• All the layers are adhered together and parts of the monsters are trimmed off so they feel like they are just jumping into the scene. 

Overall I think the card is really fun and conveys the Valentine message well for a teenage boy!  Thanks so much for stopping by and know that I appreciate all your comments!

Retro Rubber Sketchy time!

You are going to love all the versions that the Design Team has created for the sketch over at Retro Rubber!  I know that my card came together really quickly once I decided the theme.  Do come and play along with our challenge and remember we have two simple rules.  1)  Please use a stamp that is older than a year and indicate the age of the stamp 2)  Enter up to ten challenges including ours.

As I thought through my initial concept I zeroed in on a pine cone die and embossing folder I had in my stash.  Fortunately one of my earliest purchases was a pine bough from American Art Stamps back in May of 1997.  It is fun to use it again in a mixed texture project.

• I stamped the pine boughs in Versa Color Tea Leaves on cream cardstock and fussy cut the images.  (My Scan N Cut is buried by plants right now . . . we are painting the interior of our home and all the house plants ended up on my desk in the craft room!)
• Brown cardstock is die cut with Elizabeth Craft Designs Stitched Circles and Spellbinders Standard Circles Small is die cut from cream cardstock. 
• Happy accident!  The brown cardstock that I used to die cut the circle was from my scrap bag and was the perfect size for the front of an A-2 card.  I just happened to die cut the circle from about the center without thinking and I could still use the rest of the piece for the front of the card!  This cardstock was pressure embossed with Elizabeth Craft Designs Pine Cone embossing folder, then the surface is lightly sanded to bring out the embossing.
• The pine cones are die cut from red-brown cardstock and rolled into shape.  
• The remainder of the red-brown cardstock is trimmed to make the banner shape behind the circles.  
• With all the texture in the background I decided it was best to use a die cut sentiment, so a Stamps of Life Die set, Framelites Drop-Ins 660143 had the right size of Happy Birthday.  With a little creative trimming I had a great little sentiment.  
• All the layered are adhered together a a bit of twine is tied in a bow at the top of the pine boughs.

I think that this fall themed birthday card is perfect for a man in my life, as my husband's birthday is right around the corner!  Thanks for stopping by, it is a pleasure to read your comments!  

Coffee Lovers Blog Hop with Quick Quotes

It is so much fun to be a part of blog hop, and here we are with another Quick Quotes Coffee Lovers Blog hop in kahoots with others!

Neva here to show case the awesome Autumn Brilliance paper collection.  I recently completed a layout with this collection and used the scraps to create this fun flip card.  Each section is die cut out of the coordinating patterns and inked with Mocha Mama Powder Puff Chalking Ink.  The images are a VERY old Stamping Up set dated 1999 that I found in a thrift store!  I believe the set is named "What's Brewin'?"  The images are stamped in Rusty Nail Powder Puff Chalking Ink.

Here is the inside view.  The hemp cord is adhered to the patterned cardstock before it is adhered to the base card.  What a quick cut card!

Happy Birthday layout created from Altered Kit Club Q

Neva here today to share a layout created from the June's Club Q Altered Kit.  I really liked the combinations of papers in this kit and thought it was perfect for the photos of my son's birthday.  The greens from the Secret Garden sheet matched the wrapping paper in the photos.  The reverse side of the Secret Garden sheet with it's multi-colored jellybeans was a great compliment to the brightly hued photos. 

 Often many parts of the Club Q kits are pre-cut, other papers come as whole sheets.  In this case I used the Altered Kit from June as is with one sheet addition.  The section of Sonata 103 wasn't as large as I liked it for the layout so I used another sheet from my stash.  All the other pieces are used in dimensions included in the kit. 

• Sonata 103 is trimmed to 6" x 12", and the right side section is trimmed to 6" x 7".  
• All the edges of the papers are inked with Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Capri Blue.
• The layout is adhered together with each of the inked edges on all of the pieces showing.  
• The enamel dots are added in a triangle to balance the design.
• The remaining section of Sonata 103 and the piece from the kit are used to create the stamped embellishments.
• The Happy Birthday sentiment is die cut from Spring Showers 104 left over from another layout.  

If you have every wondered how to stamp a layered stamp that has a matching die cut, here is the method I have found to get it right the first time!

• Die cut the image from cardstock first, then place the whole section into a stamp positioner.  
• You may use re-postionable painter's tape on the reverse to hold the die cut in place, (not shown).
• Stamp the outline first, I used Capri Blue for the cake.  Look from directly above the image down through the acrylic stamp to line it up with the die cut.
• Allow the stamp positioner to pick up the stamp then stamp the image.
• Repeat for each of the layers.  The frosting on the cake is stamped in Key Largo.  I stamped different sections and was able to complete the cake in three phases.

This is the finished version complete with proper number of candles.  Also shown are the enamel dots and one of the stamped sentiments.

• The candles are stamped with the method above and then the flame is colored with Island Orange and a Fantastix brush tip.  
• The sentiments are stamped in Capri Blue and the edges are inked with the same color. 

• Each of the stamped sentiments have a small piece of twine from the kit tied around one end.

• A smaller tag is hand cut from Sonata 103 to match the shape of the tag from the kit.  
• Two pieces of twine decorate the top of the tag.

Hooray Monsters for Retro Rubber Sketch

We have a great easy to use sketch for our challenge at Retro Rubber for the next two weeks.  We have a few rules to play along:  use at least one stamp older than a year, enter 10 or fewer challenges, and the usual no back-linking.

You may use the sketch as you like as long as we can recognize the sketch.  My contribution deviates a tiny bit as the stars are part of of the front panel.

First I stamped the Monsters4celebration by Stephanie Bernard and The Stamps of Life on white glossy cardstock with Versa Mark Dazzle and heat embossed them with Iridescent Embossing Powder.  A few spritzes of Fireworks! in Lulu Lavender, Bahama blue and Rose Bud finish the background.  I like how they are peeking around the corners of the card.  The center sentiment panel is punched with EK Success Star Border and backed with Paper Studio Glitter Paper.  The sentiment is also from the Monsters4celebration and is stamped in StazOn Azure.  StazOn Jet Back edges all the layers.  Monsters2 also by Stephanie Bernard and The Stamps of Life is die cut from white cardstock, glitter paper, and black cardstock.  The white background of the die cut needed a tiny bit of definition so I edged it with the brush tip of a Dual Tip Memento Marker in Tuxedo Black.  The monster's tongue is colored with Fireworks! Rose Bud.  The layers are adhered together and the monster is adhered with dimensional foam adhesive.

I hope to send this card soon as it is a soon as we hear that a job offer has come through for our daughter.  She is a recent college graduate and we wanted a fun congratualatory greeting to help her celebrate.

Congratulations Grad, you are one in a million!

One last graduation card, this one for a niece who graduated from the University of North Dakota done in school colors!

I started with green Coordinations cardstock with a white core center and the Darice Grad Caps embossing folder.  I sanded the cardstock to bring out the embossed images just a bit more.  Framelits Drop-Ins 61836 by Stephanie Barnard creates the frame along with Congratulations sentiment.   Black glitter cardstock by Fancy Pants Designs adds a bit of sparkle to the die cuts!  Thinlits 3D Drop-Ins 661574 by Stephanie Barnard "You are one in a Millon" is used to die cut the star embellishments.  The card is mounted on a white cardstock base. 

The inside of the card has a bit more fun with a green polka dot ribbon and star border along with the sentiment "You are one in a Million".  I was really pleased with the finished card and I am sure that our niece will enjoy her special celebration in an envelope!

Graduation Box Card

I have been wanting to make a box card for awhile, especially since I purchased the Box Card Die Set from The Stamps of Life by Stephanie Barnard.  Crafting a special graduation card for my DSD was the perfect time to give box card making a go!

Only one sheet of gold and one sheet of maroon were used in creating this fun card.  I started with the aforementioned Box Card Die Set, with a few additions.  Sizzix Framelits Drop-Ins 560147 added a few details to the center stand up pieces.  I also used Quickutz dies for the Grad Cap, diploma, Balloons, and Streamers.

A view from one side . . .

 . . . and then the other.  So many fun things to look at in this die cut card!  All the center decorations are die cut in positive and reverse images.  Recycled packaging is used for mounting the decorations to the mechanism inside the box card.  Xyron and glue dots were my friends to adhere this master piece together!

The envelope is made from another sheet of maroon cardstock, and a few remaining die cuts decorate the outside.  This card did not stay within the size of an A2 card so the custom sized envelop was necessary!

I love how the card folds flat for mailing, or in this case hand carrying on the flight to Arizona!

Graduation Card for John

We have two graduates in our home!  Grace graduated from ASU in May and I've yet to share her card . . . coming soon!  John graduated from High School last week, and this is the card he called "sick", as only a teenager could!

I started with Ten Second Studio's Metal Sheet in Black Pearl and used the Darice graduation caps embossing folder to give it some texture.  The front of the card is Sizzix Framelits Drop-Ins 661574 die cut from red cardstock.  Congratulations and the stars are die cut from Recollections Silver Glitter Paper.  It is really shimmery in the sunlight, the photograph does not do the shine justice!  The accent stars are from Sizzix One in a Million Thinlits 3D Drop-Ins 662256 along with the Sizzix Celebrate Thinlits 3D Drop-Ins 661574.  The card base is Recollections black cardstock.

The inside is Sizzix Celebrate Thinlits 3D Drop-Ins 661574 with a few more embellishments.  The scallops are the Sizzix Framelits Drop-Ins 560147.  I cut one side from patterned Black Out by Trim Craft.  The other is white cardstock.  The choice of colors to match John's high school colors made creating this card easy although a bit time consuming.

One fish, two fish for Retro Rubber AG challenge

It is Anything Goes challenge at Retro Rubber!  Time to show us your favorite style, or try out something new! 

I actually made this birthday card for a little friend who turned two awhile back.  He loved the card!

I started with stamping and die cutting the two fish from The Stamps of Life by Stephanie Barnard fish2stamp and die set from 6/2017 (just old enough!).  One was stamped in Brilliance Pearlescent Poppy the other in Memento Luxe Morocco and both were heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  A spritz of Fireworks! in Dandelion and Tangelo on my craft mat allowed me to water color both images.  To highlight the eyes and the mouth on one fish I used my Chameleon alcohol pen in Deep Black.

The background is Bristol Board as it holds up well to blending techniques, and it is die cut with Elizabeth Craft Designs Stitched Rectangles.  Goosebumps spritzed on the background and it set aside to dry.  Once dry, I blended Delicata Sapphire Blue across the surface.  The bottom has a few more applications of ink than the top and it is blended to create the ombre look.  The Goosebumps pops up with the white color to look like bubbles.  The sentiments are stamped in StazOn Jet Black from the TSOL sayings4fish set.  The background is adhered to a black layer, then adhered to a card base.

Coffee Lovers Blog Hop with Quick Quotes

 I am a coffee lover and enjoy a great cup of coffee almost every morning, my red Kurig was a birthday gift from my mother a few years back.  Since I am the only coffee drinker in my home, having a fresh little Kurig pod has really improved the flavor of my daily treat.  On to my contribution for the blog hop, a card that incorporates several papers from the Whistlin’ Dixie line.

o   I die cut the mug, background for coffee, and the accent stripes from 103. 

o   The base card and front panel are die cut from 107. 

o   The coffee sentiment, backing for the mug, and accent stripes are die cut from 106. 

o   The Coffee sentiment did not stand out enough against the striped background so I outlined it with a Zig writer in the color . . . wait for it, coffee! 

o   The mug is also outlined to add cohesiveness to the front of the card. 

o   After deciding placement for the mug and coffee sentiment I stamped the sentiments in Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Purple Rain.

Take Ten published Succulent Card

It is always exciting to receive a new crafting magazine in the mail, but even more so when they come for free because you have a card published!  Then comes the fun of hunting for the card that was selected for the publication.

This card was part of the collection I sent in last April, it wasn't punny enough to go with this set of cards Take Ten published last fall.    I am glad they still liked it!  I guess it just goes to show you that they may take awhile to select a card for publication.

Get Dotty with Retro Rubber

It is time for a new challenge at Retro Rubber ChallengeBlog.  This time around use dots or circles in your creation!

Just remember to use at least one stamp that is older than a year, let us know how long you have had it in your stash, and enter up to 10 challenges along with ours!

My take on the challenge used an old Technique Tuesday stamp set that had three sizes of dots.  It is from 2005 and is called Love Me, Love me not.  I experimented with two different Kaleidacolor ink pads and decided that the Spectrum version was the winner.  Happy Birthday Sizzix Framelits Drop-Ins was die cut and then the front of the card base was brayered with the Spectrum Kaleidacolor.  The dots were stamped randomly on the Happy Birthday die cut, and the inside of the base card where it shows behind the sentiment.  A second die cut of Happy Birthday is trimmed to add some dimension by adhering with dimensional foam adhesive above random letters.  What a fun colorful card to send to some lucky birthday person!

Snowy Mittens!

The challenge this month at Imagine was "Let it Snow!"  Here is my take:

 

Delicata is the perfect ink to create a Let It Snow Flip card, or in my case Warm & Cozy Wishes while surrounded by snowflakes! In order to make this card, you will need the Sizzix Framelits Flip Its 660022 or one similar to it from Sizzix. There are several video tutorials on how to use this die and once you have a handle on how to construct the card then the rest is easy!

The mittens and cuffs are stamped and heat embossed with clear embossing powder and die cut, then placed over the stamped mitten image. The snowflake background is created by stamping with Delicata White Shimmer and heat embossing with clear embossing powder. Delicata Sapphire Blue is applied over the entire area with an Ink Blusher then the ink is buffed off the images with a paper towel.

The background behind the mittens and the small snowflake die cuts are simply stamped in Delicata, the shimmer of the ink does the rest! Ink blusher applies ink around the edges of the card in Delicata Silvery Shimmer, and behind the circle in Delicata Sapphire Blue.

By using just three Delicata inks, a bright and beautiful coordinated flip card is fun to create. I hope your holidays are warm and cozy!

Festive Christmas Colors

We have a very seasonal challenge at Retro Rubber Blog Challenge!  Check out the cool creations of the design team.

 

For this challenge, I had my heart set on using an Altenew set called Poinsettia & Pine from 2015.

I started by stamping all the images in Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black and heat embossing with clear embossing powder.  I tapped a bit of Fireworks! spray on my craft mat and did a bit of water coloring with the pretty sparkly sprays.  I used Rhubarb Stalk, Bamboo Leaves, and Desert Sand.  To change up the color at bit I added in some Northern Pine Memento Luxe ink to the green and Peanut Brittle into the Desert Sand, this a really great way to expand your color palate.  A bit of shimmer vellum was pressure embossed with Cuttlebug Polka Dots backs the images.  The spare piece that was trimmed off becomes strip to complete the sketch and add the sentiment.  Olive Green Memento Luxe with iridescent embossing powder stamp the sentiment by The Stamps of Life to finish off the card.
