MOPS Play Day

Another layout featuring my younger son in his preschool days.  We had a group over for a time to play and socialize.

 

• This layout features Echo Park All About a Boy collection kit, the same one as yesterday's layout featured.  The bright colors and boy themed embellishments make for a quick layout.
• The background is Kraft cardstock which is a nice contrast to the fun colors of the patterned papers.
• If you look really close you can see that I was able to turn other letters into the "a"s that I needed for the title.  I choose "g" and added the bottom serif from the "z".

Gymnastics

Well not exactly full on gymnastics, but more pre-school time at the gymnastics gym!  I played along with at sketch challenge over at 2PeasRefugees.

• Dark Blue cardstock creates a base for a layout that features bits and scraps from the Echo Park All About a Boy collection kit.
• Stickers from the element sheet and die cuts from the spinner patterned paper came in handy as embellishments.
• Making Memories Dot Style Creative Letters stickers stand out nicely against all the patterns in the layout.

This was fun to put together using as many scraps as I could.  Collections allow me to do this, and Echo Park makes great collections!

Great memories from when my son was small and learning all kinds of new things!

Bicycles

One of my favorite paper companies right now is Echo Park.  They have such delightful collections, and they can be mixed with other collections easily like I have in this layout.

I primarily used That's My Boy by Lori Whitlock for Echo Park and added in another sheet from Jack and Jill, also by Lori Whitlock for Echo Park. 

• I wanted to use the journal card with a bicycle, so I incorporated the matching pattern from the collection on the right side.
• Photos are backed with one paper that is represented by a vertical strip on the opposing page. My Boy and You Rock are used both A and B sides.  
• The Jack and Jill Bicycles was perfect for this layout and I had one sheet.  I made duplicate layouts for both boys so it was stretched between 4 pages. 
• I didn't want the bicycle sticker to float, so it is grounded by the small section of Boy Stripes.
• That's My Boy Element Stickers and Alpha Stickers are used to finish the embellishments, title and subtitle.

Aviation Museum

The first summer our boys were home from Russia we took a road trip to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the annual EAA Airventure convention.  We've been many times since, but this layout hold particular joy as my young son was so enthralled with all the interactive exhibits related to aircraft and piloting.  You can just see his amazement in the photos.  

The bright orange in his shirt was great to match the All About a Boy collection by Lori Whitlock for Echo Park. 

• Matching Blue cardstock is used for the base layer.
• Super hero is trimmed to 9 1/2" x 12", split to 5" on the left and 7" on the right.  The corners are rounded.   
• Games is trimmed to 7" x 7" on the left, and 5" x 7" on the right.  
• Curious is trimmed to 1 1/2" x 7"on the left and 1 1/2" x 5" on the right and layered below Games.  
• Various embellishments are selected from the collection Sticker Elements, Alpha Stickers, and Chipboard Accents and added to complete the layout.  
• Journaling on the journal card is completed in Zig Writer Blue.  

Sometimes using one collection really simplifies putting together a great layout, and Echo Park collections are great for this purpose.  Both A and B sides are all coordinated and the patterns repeat in the embellishments.

Double Page for Stick It Down, Soccer Season in one Layout!

I just loved how quick and easy this layout went together with this fun sketch from Stick It Down!

I am working through some events from a few years back and wanted to get all of one Parks and Rec Soccer Season in one layout.  Many soccer photos are best as landscape, so using three photos that are 3 1/2" x 2" took the place of each portrait photo.

• I stayed fairly true to the sketch, using 3 3/4" circles around the perimeter.  I used Autumn Leaves (blue check with soccer balls and sayings) and two Stamping Station papers, Soccer Typewriter and Soccer Sayings.  
• The ball soccer balls are ancient Queen & Co Felt Fusion.  
• The top border is a ribbon from Bobbin Ribbon. 
• I have a new toy!  A Brother Scan N Cut SDX 225, which I used to die cut the title.  with a little experimentation I used painters tape to keep the letter spacing and applied liquid glue to the letters to adhere them to the layout.  
• With so much going on already on the layout, I choose smaller embellishments form a Stick-a-bilities set for Soccer.  The colors were perfect!

Always glad to have another layout completed and memory preserved . . . even it if is from a few years back! Have fun with this sketch and come play along with us at Stick It Down!

PADA Award Winner

Today I am sharing a layout about a stand-out event in my husband's career.  He is an aerospace engineer, and this is one of the first major awards that recognizes his excellence in the field of aviation design and engineering.  He is a long time EAA (Experimental Aviation Association) member and this award is from a subsidiary, the Personal Aviation Design Academy (PADA).

Echo Park's Jack and Jill collection was perfect for this layout.  I love the aviation themed parts of this collection.  I created this layout primarily from scraps left over from previous layouts.

• A 2" strip of the B side of Travel pattern and 1 1/2" strip of the B side of Plaid pattern span both pages.  
• I used a single 12" sticker from the Element stickers sheet to create the pop of red across the layout.  With creative placement of elements and a snip of the scissors it goes the distance.  I even had a small section left to add at the bottom of the layout for balance.
• A journal card with the same print as the Planes pattern incorporated the diagrams of various aircraft in two places. 
• A 6" x 6" square of the Planes pattern spans the bottom of the layout.   This paper is a favorite and I wanted more of it to show through. 
• A small squares and rectangles of the B side of Cars pattern creates a visual triangle.
• A few more elements from the Element Sticker sheet highlight the Dad and Son photo and balance on the opposite side with the compass.
• The alpha stickers from the set are used for the title and sub-title.
• Tangerine Quickutz is used to die cut the year for the title and add a bit more red for visual interest.

I really like how this layout came together and preserves an amazing memory for my husband.   Thanks for stopping by and visit again soon!

My Baptism Layout

Here are a few pages that commemorate a special event in our boys lives.  Less than a year after the boys came home from Russia we received news that their God Parents were coming to visit us in Bend over Father's Day weekend.  What a perfect time to plan their Baptism!  We had a full weekend of celebrating both at church, in our home, and out in nature.

A few years back I found some give-away items at a crop and snagged a few sets of of Baptism related stickers made by Karen Foster Design printed in 2005 aptly named Baptism.  The colors turned out to be perfect for the photos, and thus guided my choice of papers.  Two colors of Craft Smith Cardstock were selected along with one pattern from Provo Craft Slab III and one pattern from Hot Off The Press. 

• A strip of blue cardstock 2 1/2" x 11 1/2 was pressure embossed with Darice's Crosses,  which had a narrow slot to move the paper through to get a mostly continuous pattern.  A little secret here, I covered the area that didn't match with a strategically placed sticker!
• The embossed pattern is backed with patterned papers.
• Three crosses are die cut from white cardstock with Spellbinders Crosses Two.  Two are also pressure embossed with the pattern on the dies.
• The right side of the layout has one pattern trimmed to 7" x 8" inches.  I choose to not extend it all the way across the page to allow large die cut cross to shine.
• The blue cardstock is trimmed to 8 1/2" x 12, and patterned paper strips are layers behind the cardstock.
• Another secret, I gutted the one edge of the blue cardstock for the blue journaling blocks.  I had longer story to share, and it best fit by word processing and printing onto the cardstock.
• Brads are added to the baptism stickers.  A few already had holes to be embellished.
• The baptism stickers and crosses are adhered to finish the page.

School Is Finally Out

I am enjoying more time in my craft cave and have another layout to share from this last weekend.  Two years ago we had a record snowfall as documented by this layout, Snowmaggedon.  My older son missed 8 days of school and my younger son 11 days.  The district made up a few days by having student contact time on days that were normally teacher grading days, and by by adding 4 days to the end of the year.  Hence the title!

I am playing along with the sketch from Sketch-n-scrap:

I played around with a few supplies including some really old ones to achieve the look of the sketch and a challenge at 2Peasrefugees.

• All the papers (except one) are from the Basic Grey Oliver collection; Tyson, Drake, Aidan, and Joey are used on the layout.
• To create the border, I used some ancient Mrs. Grossman's Stickers by the Yard in Black.  
• The center is trimmed to 10" x 10".
• The red strip is trimmed to 3/4" x 11" and pressure embossed with a single line of dots using the embossing folder by Cuttlebug, Daisy Border.  I had tried stamping in white ink and did not like the look, I think this is just the right amount of distressed look to coordinate with the papers.
• The journaling is done on Scenic Route's Grid Outline on White with Zig Antique Burgundy.  I also ran the pen around the outside edge to give it a bit of definition.  I also used a few rub-on letters (unknown origin), for the "Yeah!".
• The little label for the date is a Quickutz die, and I added two enamel dots from Echo Park Jungle Safari collection. 
•  The title is Quickutz Frankie Classic and Mini.  I think it is kind of fun to used both sizes and used two colors for the title. 
• A few Basic Grey Oliver Elements Stickers complete the embellishments.

Airsoft Double Page Layout for Stick It Down

Love this sketch for June’s Stick It Down double page layout!  It was great for an event that features all my boys playing a rousing game of Airsoft!

 

My interpretation used a line from Basic Grey by the name of Oliver.  I’ve had it since a convention a few years back and the date on the collection is 2010!  But it was so perfect for these photos.

I trimmed 4 ½” from the spotted side of Tyson and adhered it to the green side of Drake.  A few stickers from the Oliver Element Stickers finished the embellishments.  The strip behind the photos is actually cut into sections to use one 12” sticker to make it look like it went all the way across the 24” span.  The title is cut from the red side of Tyson using Quickutz Moxie Classic.  A few journaling strips and I was done!  I used Zig Steel Grey to journal, and Memento Gray Flannel to edge and distress the journaling strips.  I think the dots remind me of the airsoft ammo, one of the reasons that this paper collection was so great to scrap this event.

Newberry VNM with Stick It Down

I love that this sketch has loads of photos, great for a layout of a field trip with my son!  The Tamarack trees had changed color and that seemed to be the best color to use for background cardstock.

Die Cuts With a View Adventurer paper collection was the perfect patterned paper choice, and a few tree die cuts from my stash added the right embellishments.  I've had these tree die cuts for so long I don't have a clue to their origin.  A little inking with Versa Magic inks add just the right high and low lights to the trees.  I pulled out my sticker selection to create a title, both Making Memories and Francis Meyer alphabets were used in a Forrest Green.  Needed both sizes since the title was super long!  Keeping with the tree theme I used pine cones to finish the layout.  What a great way to remember a fun day with my son and his class last fall!

Echo Park Blog Hop Oshkosh Layout

Fun times with Imagine and Echo Park Paper, we are having a blog hop!  (The blog hop list is at the end of this post.)  Remember to leave a comment for a chance to win prizes from Imagine and Echo Park Paper, one comment per blog post please!  I have been planning this layout since the blog hop started taking shape as I knew that Echo Park and Carta Bella had some amazing paper collections and dies and stamps that would work perfectly with my intended airplane theme. 

My family has attended the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual event in Oshkosh, Wisconsin several times even though the round trip is about 4,000 miles from our home in Central Oregon.  We were fortunate to attend again in 2016 along with my parents and siblings.  The hardest part of creating this layout was selecting a limited number of photos!  The Echo Park Jack & Jill Boy paper collection paired nicely with Carta Bella dies and stamps and a few Imagine products to make a quick and easy layout.

Skill level:  Beginner

Time:  1 hour

Directions:

Step 1:  Use a Sponge Dauber to ink with Brilliance Starlite Silver and the Carta Bella Vintage Airplane stencil on desired background paper.  The beauty of a directional stencil and ink is that once cleaned the stencil can be reversed and have the airplanes face towards the middle of the layout.  (Side note--I placed the inky stencil on white cardstock and ran a brayer over it for use at a later time!)

Step 2: Die cut and stamp airplane and hot air balloon from coordinating red cardstock and Memento Paris Dusk.  Die cut the Vintage Airplane body from red cardstock.  To maintain the color scheme, use a sponge dauber to ink a section of the red cardstock and die cut accent elements for Vintage Airplane and assemble.

Step 3:

Ink edges of photos with Memento Paris Dusk to add just a hint of color.  Print journaling on white cardstock. Trim and adhere selected papers and photos to background cardstock.  Adhere title stickers and number stickers to each photo.   Another side note--I really like the airplane paper and want to use it on layouts for both of my son's albums.  It was easy to stretch my supplies with a little ink and a stencil!

Cousins & the Red Hat Society

Still on a roll with the scrapping!  This layout started with the Tic Tac Toe challenge over at Scrappy Friends Challenges.  

Shopping my stash was blast for this layout.  The embossed lavender card stock was spritzed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Purple.  The red card stock was cut into a scalloped circle shape with the Creative Memories cutting system.  The dark purple card stock (Color Mates) was punched with a Martha Stewart boarder punch.  A strip of white handmade paper from Costco was torn with a plaid deckle ruler to back the hand gathered ribbon.  Two strips of Zips adhesive lines secured the ribbon and the Recollections Red sequins ribbon.  The photos were backed with the purple card stock and the title was die cut with Quickutz Blossom font.  The journaling was written on the computer and printed on Glama Natural Velum, die cut with Heartfelt Creations Cut Mat Create 1B die, and inked with BazzInks in Pansy.  The final touches are a few vellum stamps found in my stash and Martha Stewart Hydrangea stickers.

I completed the following Tic Tac Toe rows:  vertical row of sequins, ink, and border punch; and horizontal row of sequins, 2+ photos, and die cuts.

TBT Family Day

Yesterday is the day that we as a family celebrate FAMILY DAY.  Our sons were adopted from Russia on September 25, 2009, but it took us until October 15, 2009 to finally be reunited as a family.  This photo was taken a few days later when both sets of Grandparents could be together with us as we began the great journey together.

I had collected a few Adoption related scrapbooking items during our long process of 18 months to bring our boys home.  This paper was one of those supplies, with the title already printed on the paper.  I only had two sheets, and thus need to use it wisely as I wanted a layout for each boy.  The contrasting background paper is cut from behind the photo mat.  I found matching Black Magic card stock in my stash.  A few border stickers and a time line journaling mat finished the layout.

My how they have grown, changed, and matured since this photo.  I am so proud of the young man my now fifteen year-old son has become.  My little man has grown from being barely at the 3% for height and weight to almost the 50%.  Our daughter is now a freshman in college.  Happy Fifth Anniversary as a Family to my precious family!
