Quick Graduation Card from a sketch

I was in the mood to get a ton of things done today and on the list was a graduation card for an announcement that came a few weeks ago.  A quick search for a card sketch challenge and I found this one over at Freshly Made Sketches 698 that made this card go together in just 15 minutes!

The graduate will be going to a well known university in California, so I choose those colors for the card.

  •  From my scraps bin I found crimson cardstock and stamped an acient grad cap by PSX probably 1998 or so in Memento Luxe Wedding White and heat embossed with white detail embossing powder.
  • The diploma is from Stampendous 1998 dated.  Stamped in Versafine Clair Nocturne and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.
  • The confetti is a stencil by Alex Syberis Designs called festive fun.  It is a two step stencil.  I used Altenew Mahogany Bark and Maple Yellow.
  • The sentiment is from Taylored Expressions Simple Strips Background and I simply edged the strip in Maple Yellow.
  • Adhered it all together and wooza, it is done.

Thanks for stopping by!

CAS Card sketch for Retro Rubber

A nice clean and simple sketch to play with over at Retro Rubber Challenge Blog.

This card uses several two different scraps from previous crafting sessions.

  • The vertical piece is created with the shaving cream method and All Purpose Inks on watercolor paper.  Thistle, Cerulean Blue, and Platinum were dropped on shaving cream and swirled with a toothpick.  Watercolor paper is kissed to the mixture and set aside to dry.
  • The pastel purple is created with a stencil and Fireworks! sprays in Lulu Lavender, Summer Sky, and Silvery Shimmer.
  • The sentiment is Great Impressions from Jan 2015 and is stamped in Delicata Silvery Shimmer and heat embossed with iridescent embossing powder.  The edges of the sentiment are inked and heat embossed as well.
  • Mauve cardstock is pressure embossed with Elizabeth Craft Designs Hearts Intertwined embossing folder.
  •  The layers are adhered together to finish a very clean and simple design Sympathy card.

Thank you for stopping in and please do join our fun at Retro Rubber Challenge.

Everyone's favorite challenge, Anything Goes with Retro Rubber!

The title says it all, anything goes for a project at Retro Rubber Challenge Blog this fortnight.

I have a few oversize floral images in my stash and decided to play with one for this challenge.  It is the Altenew Bellowing Peonies from just last year, so barely a year old.  For some reason I really like peony images and this is a perfect example why!

It is almost a one layer card, and feels very sophisticated to me.

  • The Bellowing Peonies image is stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento ink.
  • The matching stencils add just the right layering to the image with Memento Angel Pink, Lilac Posies, Dandelion, Cantaloupe, Bamboo Leaves, and Pear Tart.
  • Some layers are very light handed, then the subsequent layer is more heavy handed to give the subtle colored look.
  • Altenew Rustic Burlap Press Plate is used to dry emboss texture into the image.
  • The edges are distressed to give it a hand-made paper feel.
  • The sentiment is stamped in Memento Lilac Posies and die cut.  The sub-sentiment is stamped in Tuxedo Black and also die cut.  Both are mounted with two additional die cuts glued behind to create more dimension.

This card has already been mailed to it's recipient.  It was meant to bring some encouragement!

Play along with our Anything Goes, challenge at Retro Rubber--you know you want to!

Under the Sea with Retro Rubber

Our current challenge at Retro Rubber Challenge Blog is under the sea!  Most of my recent paper crafting has been scrapping a cruise I went on with my dear husband for our 20th Anniversary!  But none of those layouts are "under the sea"!   For the majority of my layouts it is all above the ocean action.

Then I remembered I had this super cute Shark Pudgie released in June 2017.  There are a "few" cute images I like playing with, and this is one.  It will stick around for awhile longer, while others get purged.

  • The background is super simple, a foam brayers with Kaleidacolor in Blue Breeze.  The wave die cut is adhered over the top to create white waves.
  • The shark is die cut, then the stamp is carefully inked and the die cut placed over it to get the inked areas on the die cut.  It is really hard to line up and get a good image by stamping first.  The shark is stamped once on the die cut and a second time on white cardstock.  The white cardstock is trimmed to fit behind the shark die cut.  The stamped eyes show through the holes and give the image a bit of a cartoon eye look.  Plus the teeth show up white.
  • The outline of the shark is die cut through the background.
  • A sentiment from the set is stamped and die cut in a circle.  Kaleidacolor's darkest ink in Blue Breeze is used to stamp the sentiment, and the lightest color to ink the edges.
  • The background and card base corners are rounded and the entire card is adhered together.

I think he's pretty cute and not scary at all!

Please do join us at Retro Rubber and play along with our latest challenge.

Winter Color Scheme Inspiration for Retro Rubber

Each team member contributed to the challenges for Retro Rubber this year.  This lovely color scheme was my choice, and was a great inspiration for this fun card.

The trees in the image were also an inspiration for my stamp choice.

  • The background was created by blending Versa Magic Thatched Straw, Persimmon, Spring Pansy, Purple Hydrangea, and Pretty Petunia with an ink dauber.  Pigment based inks blend the best with sponge based ink daubers rather than small bristled blending tools.
  • Pink Fresh's Through the Trees from 2019 is stamped in Versa Magic Wedding White and heat embossed with white detail embossing powder.
  • Versa Fine Claire Fantasia is used to stamp the sentiment.
  • The image is die cut with My Favorite Things Wonky Stitched Rectangles.
  • The card base is inked with Versa Magic Persimmon, and the image is mounted to the card base.
  • Spellbinders sequins are added to finish the card.

Simple and pretty, my friend really enjoyed this card.  That is part of the joy of creating cards is when the recipient truly appreciates the little masterpiece.

Please join us at Retro Rubber and make your own card featuring this soothing palette.

Birthday wish for a Halloween Witch

Sometimes you just have to embrace the day you are born, as my sister-in-law does with her October 31st birthday.  It great that I can create a handmade card just for her that celebrates her birthday in witchy style.  The next two weeks at Retro Rubber Challenge Blog we have a fun tic tac toe to play with.

I choose the diecut, ribbon or twine, patterned paper horizontal row.  I started with the patterned paper that already had a lovely oval die cut in the middle!

  • The "witch foot" is stamped in Memento Luxe Black Tuxedo and Heat embossed with black embossing powder.  It is the Hero Arts Stamp and Cut released in 2016.   It is then die cut.
  • Nuvo Crystal Drops in Bright Gold is put on the buckle and a small black pearl is placed in the center.
  • The paper is DCWV Dots, the twine is American Crafts.
  • The card is assembled to determine the sentiments placement.  The orange cardstock is from my stash.  The top sentiment is from the Witch Foot stamp set, the Birthday is from Technique Tuesday.  Both are stamped in Memento Luxe Black Tuxedo and Heat embossed with black embossing powder.

Please do join along and make your own project to use the tic tac toe!

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy time at Retro Rubber

Ah, the taste of fresh homemade lemonade . . . tangy sweet summer time drink!  Our challenge for the next two weeks at Retro Rubber Blog challenge is a color challenge, with the sample incorporating lemons.

I choose to stay with the lemon theme with Hero Arts "Zest Wishes" from 2020.  I don't own the die set for this stamp collection, but it was easy peasy enough to fussy cut the images!

  • The images were stamped in Nocturne Versa Fine Clair and heat embossed with black embossing powder on white cardstock.
  • The images were water colored with Memento Dandelion and Cantaloupe.
  • The sentiment is stamped in Versa Color Cyan and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.
  • Spellbinders Standard Circles large was used to die cut the circles, one from yellow vellum.  (I like how the yellow vellum over blue gives a greenish hue!)
  • The background is blue cardstock has texture from the Taylored Expressions Pierced Circles Cutting Plate.
  • Two of the images were fussy cut and the entire card is adhered together.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  We hope you play along with our challenge at Retro Rubber Blog Challenge.

Christmas in July!

Even though it is summer . . . is it time to think about starting on your Christmas cards?  If you make a few a month, then you will be ready to send them out come December. This is our challenge at Retro Rubber for the next two weeks.

I went with a tried and true die cut Nativity scene by Crafter's Companion and a few ancient stamps.

  • Kraft card base in A7 size is die cut with Follow the Star from 2021.
  • Blue card stock is trimmed to 5" x 6 1/4", and 2" x 6 1/4"
  • The larger blue card stock is die cut to align the curve of the die.
  • The bottom section is stamped with Crafter's Companion Festive Sentiments from 2021 in Memento Luxe Wedding White and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  Neato Stuff "Dots and Stars" cube from 1991 is lightly stamped in Memento Luxe Wedding white.
  • Personal Stamp Exchange 1994 is the large star stamped and heat embossed for the large star.  Another side of the cube is used to stamp and heat emboss the remaining stars on the top section.
  • Both top and bottom are adhered to the card.
  • The smaller blue section is stamped with a third side the Neato Stuff cube to create dimension and depth then adhered behind the Nativity scene inside the card.

I am really pleased with the finished card and cannot wait to send in for Christmas.  Pleased do join us at Retro Rubber and play along.  Our rules are simple.

Color challenge time at Retro Rubber

This color challenge is right up my alley, I love all shades of purple!  Retro Rubber's challenge is:

This stamp has been in my collection for awhile, but sadly had never seen ink.  What was I waiting for?

The focal image is Penny Black's Lovely Lilac release in 2020.  It is perfect for coloring directly on the image technique.

  • Using Memento Dual Tip markers (water based) the parts are colored and stamped using a stamp positioner.  First Bamboo leaves for the stems.  The flowers are stamped from lightest to darkest color: Lulu Lavender, Sweet Plum, and Grape Jelly.  The stamp positioner allows for multiple layers of coloring.  The secret is to gently mist water over the coloring on the stamp itself to reactivate the ink.
  • The sentiment is from Inkadinkado Thanks released in 2011 and is stamped in Memento Bamboo Leaves.
  • Memento Bamboo Leaves is used to edge the card front after it is trimmed.
  • The edges of the card base are inked with Grape Jelly and an ink dauber.

This was an enjoyable card to create and the results are elegantly satisfying!  Please do come and play along with us at Retro Rubber Challenge Blog.

Sketchy time at Retro Rubber

Sketches are THE best for a quick make on a card for any occasion.  I used this sketch to make a super quick birthday card in under ten minutes!  Please come and play along with us at Retro Rubber Challenge Blog.

Here is the sketch to start your card planning.

For my card I went into my left over scrapbook papers and selected a very Retro collection, that I have had for at least 12 over more years.  Basic Grey Euphoria has some of my favorite colors to use in crafting.
  • Base and diagonal both started with 4" x 5 1/4" pieces of cardstock.  To get the perfect diagonal I made pencil marks 1 3/4" from each end before using my trimmer to create the diagonal.
  • Unity Stamps " . . . birthday jubilee" sentiment is stamped in Versa Color Peony and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  This image was easy to fussy cut.
  • The edges of the card base are inked with Versa Color Peony
  • The layers are adhered together with the sentiment added with dimensional foam adhesive.
  • Voila' a finished card in under 10 minutes!

Please enjoy this sketch and post it over at Retro Rubber Challenge blog.  We we love to see how you complete this sketch in your make.

Just Love You for Retro Rubber Challenge 199

Here we are with our second challenge of 2023 at Retro Rubber.  We are getting close to Valentine's Day so a color challenge working with Valentiney colors is appropriate!

A clean and simple card using cream, pink and silver was my choice for this challenge.

Unity Stamp Company has this really fun set called "Moon Beam and Heart Strings" released in Sept 2015.  I knew it would be perfect for a clean and simple one layer card.
  • The image is stamped in the center of the card with Delicata Silvery Shimmer and heat embossed with silver embossing powder.  The image is also stamped off the edge of the card to both the right and left to create a string of hearts across the entire card.  The outside images are offset towards the top of the card.
  • The hearts are colored in with Memento Dual Tip Marker in Angel Pink.
  • The middle sentiment is from the Unity Stamp Company set and is stamped in Memento Angel Pink.  The "we" was masked before inking the stamp, as both my husband and I will be signing this card.
  • Technique Tuesday's Say It Happy "Happy Valentine's Day" is stamped int he lower right corner in Delicata Silvery Shimmer and Heat Embossed in Silver embossing powder.

Clean and simple can be very elegant and effective, as well as quick to put together once the design decisions are made!  Enjoy all the cards made by the design team over at Retro Rubber

  • The whip cream is stamped on white cardstock with Memento Tuxdeo, then die cut.
  • The Mug is stamped on red glossy cardstock with StazOn Jet Black and die cut.  Memento Luxe Wedding White is stamped in the center of the mug and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

Tic Tac Toe Challenge for Retro Rubber

It has definitely moved from fall to winter in my part of the country in a hurry!   One day is was fall (Oct. 31st) and the very next day we had snow on the ground heralding in the winter!  But I put my fall thinking cap on to play with this fun Tic Tac Toe Challenge from Retro Rubber.

I choose the top line to make a CAS card in about 15 minutes!

  • To start I die cut the Taylored Expressions Flourishing Frame Cutting plate from tangerine cardstock.  I believe it was a freebie from 2021 Black Friday's sale!
  • I used the center block from the die cut and adhered it with temporary adhesive.  Using an ink blusher I inked the edges in memento Luxe Morocco.  I tried to make it darker at the edges blending to a lighter color toward the center.
  • The die cut is adhered with a new to me adhesive, Sticky Specks that I purchased at the Hillsboro, OR CKC.  It was super sticky, and helps keep all the little leaves in place.
  • The sentiment is from Recollections Many Thanks, 2019.  It is stamped in Memento Luxe and heat Embossed in clear embossing powder to make it pop on the white background.  By stamping it slightly off center it left room for the final embellishment.
  • A scrap of dotted yellow ribbon is tied in a bow and adhered with a glue dot.
Easy peasy; Orange, die cut, and ribbon!  Please do join us at Retro Rubber, but first go check out the lovely makes of the design team!

Fall Welcome Home Wooden Sign with Versa Fine Clair

In today's tutorial you will learn to create a super easy wood sign using the ever versatile Versa Fine Clair inks.  The Versa Fine Clair worked beautifully for this project that took just under and hour from design concept to completion!  The ink pads are nice and juicy, so the first stamp image was perfect every time, which is helpful when free hand stamping with out a stamp platform.

Skill:  Beginner

Time:  1 hour

 Directions:

Step 1:

Remove twine from the sign so it will lay flat on your work surface.  With lines on the sign already in place it was easy to line up the sentiment and acrylic stamp block.  Once the stamps are aligned, place a large acrylic block over the stamps lining up the edges to allow perfect positioning.

Step 2:

Stamp the sentiment in Versa Fine Clair Pinecone and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.  Gives the sentiment a bit of shine and keeps it from smearing!

Step 3:

Using and ink blusher ink the edges of the sign with Versa Fine Clair Cheerful.  Start from the outside edge and blend toward the center to create a slight ombre look.

Step 4:

Using and ink blusher ink the edges of the sign with Versa Fine Clair Summertime.  Start from the outside edge and blend toward the center but not as far as the Cheerful layer.

Step 5:
The leaf images are stamped using a very old stamp that features fall leaves.  The Oak leaf is stamped in Versa Fine Clair Acorn, the Aspen leaf in Summertime, and the Maple leaf in Tulip Red.  The sign can be heated with a heat gun, or set aside until the ink drys.

Step 6:

Replace twine through holes in the sign and display!

Tag, you're it! from Retro Rubber

The challenge at Retro Rubber for the next two weeks is to use a tag on your project.  This leaves a great deal of wiggle room!   Please check out the Design Team's interpretations of this challenge.

I have a 4" x6" box of miscellaneous tags that were the inspiration of my card.  To fit the longer tag I decided on a slimline card size of 3 1/2 x 8 1/2".

  •  I choose a stamp from Unity Stamp Company's . . . birthday jubilee set from July of 2013.  It is stamped in Memento Peanut Brittle.  All of the tags are also inked with Peanut Brittle.
  • To add a little interest to the next tag I used the Paper Studio Stars embossing folder, then directly inked the raised stars with Peanut Brittle.
  • The last tag has Burlap Ribbon adhered, a bit of ephemera found in the latest cleanup of my craft desk.  Fits perfectly!
  • I pulled out AC Twine in dark brown, then Darice in neutral and tied bows on each tag.
  • All the layers are adhered together and I have an easy peasy quick masculine birthday card ready to go!
Thanks for stopping by, I hope your summer is going well!  Please do enter you project in the gallery over at Retro Rubber Blog Challenge!

Sketchy Time at Retro Rubber

Sketches are a great way to get a card quickly put together.  This sketch is no exception.  Stop by Retro Rubber Challenge Blog and check out all the cool ways the design team used this sketch.

For my version I went with scraps laying on my table, and water color paper that I had tried a little experiment with to create this card.

  • The background base white cardstock has Fireworks! in Danube Blue gently tapped on the background.  (Honestly I though of this after the card was finished, and had to dismantle gently and then reattach after the Fireworks! dried.)
  • The watercolor paper has Bahama Blue and Teal Zeal Memento inks applied directly to the paper, and then spritzed with water so the colors would blend a bit.  Water color paper has a fun finish texture.
  • The scraps that were already trimmed to 1 1/8" were trimmed down to 3" long.
  • After the layers were attached to the card base the Happy Birthday Sentiment from Taylored Expressions from September 2014 In and Out Birthday was stamped in Memento Luxe Danube Blue and heat embossed with iridescent embossing powder.

My definition of a quick card!  I actually made three in less than 20 minutes!  Please do join us over at Retro Rubber and have some quick fun with this simple sketch!

Create a Stunning Christmas Card for Imagine Crafts

Today’s tutorial will feature several Imagine products, Delicata, StazOn, and Vertigo.  Using silhouette style die cut creates a stunning yet quick and easy Christmas Card.

Skill:  Beginning

Time:  30 minutes

Directions:

Step 1

Trim black cardstock to 6 ½” x 9” and fold in half.  Center die on the front panel of the card base and die cut.

Step 2

Leave the die in place and stamp the starry background with Delicata Golden Glitz.

Step 3

Use a Fantastix Brush Tip to brush in details left open in the die.  Photo shows the die removed after this step.

Step 4

Trim a section of Tafetta Vertigo to 2” x 6 3/8”.  Use an Ink Blusher to build layers of color in StazOn Blazing Red and Midnight Blue.  As the color layers blend, the red, purple, and blue along with the Tafetta Vertigo creates a stunning night sky.

Step 5

Adhere Vertigo behind the opening in the die with small dots of OnPoint Glue.  I glued around the edge and behind each small portion of the die scene.  Trim white cardstock to 6 3/8” x 8 ¾” and fold in half.  Adhere to the inside back of the card with TearIt! Tape.

Step 6

Apply TearIt! Tape to the front inside of the card and fold card closed.  This allows the card to compensate for the two layers of cardstock.

Step 7

Stamp Oh Holy Night sentiment in Delicata Golden Glitz and heat emboss with Gold Embossing Powder.
