Color challenge time at Retro Rubber

This color challenge is right up my alley, I love all shades of purple!  Retro Rubber's challenge is:

This stamp has been in my collection for awhile, but sadly had never seen ink.  What was I waiting for?

The focal image is Penny Black's Lovely Lilac release in 2020.  It is perfect for coloring directly on the image technique.

  • Using Memento Dual Tip markers (water based) the parts are colored and stamped using a stamp positioner.  First Bamboo leaves for the stems.  The flowers are stamped from lightest to darkest color: Lulu Lavender, Sweet Plum, and Grape Jelly.  The stamp positioner allows for multiple layers of coloring.  The secret is to gently mist water over the coloring on the stamp itself to reactivate the ink.
  • The sentiment is from Inkadinkado Thanks released in 2011 and is stamped in Memento Bamboo Leaves.
  • Memento Bamboo Leaves is used to edge the card front after it is trimmed.
  • The edges of the card base are inked with Grape Jelly and an ink dauber.

This was an enjoyable card to create and the results are elegantly satisfying!  Please do come and play along with us at Retro Rubber Challenge Blog.

Retro Rubber Challenge Out to Sea

Retro Rubber Challenge for the next two weeks is a nautical themed card (or project) to go with out to sea!   For me watching the ocean is a mesmerizing peaceful time to just chill.  Sometimes it's wild and foamy, other times it is on a beach with warm sand and gentle waves.  I was fortunate to grow up in a place where I could see the ocean daily from age seven to seventeen.  Now I live far from any ocean but have a wonderful lake for water viewing pleasure.

There are many wonderful ways to interpret this challenge.  I went with the lighthouse image in my stash.

This is the inspiration image from Retro Rubber, please check out the rest of the Design Team's creations for addition ideas!

To create this card I pulled out an image from Stampendous 1997 labelled Portland Head Lighthouse. That would be the Portland, Maine Portland, not the one in Oregon.

  • The image is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and is colored with Derwent Water Color pencils. Some of the colors are colored on paper then moistened with a wet fine brush to allow fine details to be colored.
  • The focal image is die cut with Elizabeth Craft Designs Stitched Rectangles, then matted on chocolate cardstock.
  • The image is adhered to the card front off center to balance the sentiment.
  • The sentiment is from Heartfelt Creations Thank You from 2018.  It is stamped in Versa Fine Vintage Sepia. (I tested having the image centered and much preferred the final design!)

Please do join us and make your own nautical themed card!  Thank you for stopping by!
