Happy Birthday with Brads!

It is time to search through your brads and eyelete collection, yes all those wonderful little pieces you just had to have 8 to 10 years ago . . . and find the perfect embellishment for your Retro Rubber creation for our new challenge.

I did just that and found this ancient history layered flower brads (a little worn around the edges) and the sweet butterfly brad.  I can always use a few Birthday Cards in the stash so I was off and running to create something to highlight these fun brads with Retro Stamps.

I used the Fiskars Layer Away Variety stamps (around 8 years in my stash) for the dotted circles, and stamped them in Memento Cottage Ivy and Sweet Plum.  Next I die cut the center circle from the card.   Couldn’t resist a little texture, so I used Lifestyle Crafts Blooms embossing folder to pressure emboss just the front of the card.  Sonlight’s “Happy Birthday” is probably the first unmounted stamp I bought back in 1997 at the Labor Day Stamp Convention in Portland, Oregon.  So it is almost 20 years old!  It is stamped in Memento Luxe Elderberry and heat embossed with clear embossing powder on the inside of the card.   

The flower brads were a little shop-worn so I gave them a little love with my Chameleon pens in VO2 Mauve, VO4 Deep Violet, and GR2 Dark Sage.  The butterfly brad was silver, but with Dark Sage and Deep Violet pens a little color was added to spice it up to match the card.  After placing the brads I realized the front of the card needed to be stabilized a little to support the weight of the brads and compensate for the pressure embossing.  A piece of violet cardstock trimmed to fit inside the card and the center circle was die cut to allow the sentiment to show through then adhered into place. 

I had one more embellishment I found in the search of my stash, a butterfly paperclip.  A strip of paper ribbon is slipped through the clip and adhered into place to add a final touch to the inside of the card.

Imagine Crafts and CAS-ual Friday have a fun Blog Hop going on today.  Hop on through all the participants and make sure to comment as there are some fun prizes to win.  Check out the link below or the complete list at Imagine Crafts Blog or CAS-ual Friday’s Blog.  This quick and easy card uses just four Imagine Crafts products to create a stunning greeting in about 15 minutes.

Step One:

Use a brayer to ink a section of glossy cardstock.  Apply ink to the width of the brayer by flipping on the orange end to complete the range of Kaliedacolor Spectrum.  Spritz brayer lightly with Ink Potion NO. 9 to allow the ink to apply more evenly.  Trim to 4 ¼” x 5 ½”. 

Step Two:

Use the remaining section to die cut the small hearts from the CAS-ual Fridays Treble Clef Fri-Die.  Trim the tail from the heart with scissors.

Step Three 

Use an Ink Blusher to ink an section of glossy cardstock with the magenta color large enough to accommodate the Treble Clef Fri-Die and die cut the shape.

Step Four

Use a deckled edge ruler to tear a section of vellum 2” x 6”.  Stamp CAS-ual Fridays Big Treble sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black.  Wrap edges around the back of the inked glossy cardstock card front and adhere.  Adhere to the an A2 white cardstock card base. 

Step Five

Adhere die cut hearts and Treble Clef to the vellum section with dimensional foam adhesive.

 

There you go, easy peasy and ready to send in just a few minutes!

Time to be Square

Time to be square over at Ruby's Rainbow Challenge, we want to see your squared shaped project for the next two weeks.  I took this opportunity to use my newest stamps and dies that I acquired at CKC in Portland earlier this month.  They are designed by Local Rubber King Rubber Stamps and are to be used by coloring directly on the stamp with water based markers.  It gives a lovely water color impression.  I am a bit late with this post as I just returned from a trip to Germany and am just now getting back into the right time zone!

1.     I used the Meadow Friends stamp and die set for this thank you card.  For the background I used Memento Dual Markers in Lulu Lavender, Sweet Plum, Grape Jelly, New Sprout, and Cottage Ivy.  I spritzed the image with Ink Potion No. 9 and double stamped on golden card stock.  I over stamped with LKRS's Script background in Memento Pear Tart

2.     The image was colored again, stamped and die cut with the coordinating die. 

3.     Spellbinders Labels One and Labels Twenty-Two are die cut and stamped with Inkadinkado Just Saying sentiment in Memento Grape Jelly then edged with an Ink Blusher as well as memento Grape Jelly.  The second die cut is inked with an Ink Blusher in Memento Pear Tart. 

4.     The card base is inked in Memento Pear Tart to frame the image. 

5.     The layers are adhered together with the top layer using dimensional foam adhesive.

I enjoyed working with these images and plan to add a few masculine sets to my collection soon!

Red, White, and Blue

For the next two weeks over at Retro Rubber Blog Challenge we would like to see your Red, White, and Blue creations.  It is that time of summer to use patriotic colors!  I went with a quick design of stars as it works really well with this fun color scheme.  I am a bit late with my post as I just returned from a short trip to Germany.  I finally had time to get this post up to share this card for the challenge.

1.     Pressure emboss white cardstock with Darice Stars Assorted and an Easy Folder Frame.  By using the Easy Folder I created an area on the panel that it not pressure embossed and is ready for my stamped image.

2.     Stamp the 2013 Hero Arts Year Round Sentiment in Versa Color Scarlet inside the "frame".

3.     Trim a blue cardstock and adhere to A2 size white card base.  Adhere card front.

4.     Die cut three sets of Spellbinders Stars and adhere to card front.

Celebrating Flag Day

Today is the birthday of the Stars and Stripes, and this card is featured on the Imagine Crafts blog.  Tomorrow the American flag is honored with a day of its own on June 14^th.  This day is also known as Armed Forces day.  The American flag represents the life of an individual who has served in the military.   There is a certain reverence­­ for the flag and for all that it symbolizes for our country.  I am honored to share a card that features the red, white, and blue of the United States flag.

Blazing Poppy Composition Book

For the next fortnight our challenge at Ruby's Rainbow Challenge is Anything But A Card.  I created a new composition book for blog note taking.  As I create projects I write down thoughts so I can remember what products, stamps, dies, and tools were used.  My first one has been in use since October 2014, and it is full so it was time to create a new one.

Heartfelt Creations Blazing Poppy collection was perfect for this ABAC project.  As I frequently carry my comp book with me it couldn't be too lumpy bumpy so the back is more simple than the front.

1.    Select two papers from the collection and trim to 7" x 10".  This will be slightly larger than the covers.  Line the paper up with the binding edge and adhere with Mod Podge.  Place a sheet of freezer paper inside the cover to protect the pages.  (Note: Each side will be done in alternate steps.). Set aside to dry.

2.    On peach cardstock stamp Blazing Poppy stamp in Memento Tuxedo Black.  With a Sponge Dauber add Memento Luxe Morocco to color the center of the flowers.  Die cut the flowers.  Spritz the back of the flowers with water and shape the flowers.  Set aside to dry.

3.    Trim the excess paper from the covers with an Exacto knife and ink edges with Memento Luxe Morocco.  Add a coat of Mod Podge.

4.    Select images from patterned paper collection for the back cover and trim.  Die cut both sizes of Heartfelt Creations Decorative Blossom Corners.  Adhere with a layer of Mod Podge.

5.    Die cut two Heartfelt Creations Eyelet Ovals in coordinating papers.  Adhere with a layers of Mod Podge.

6.    Die cut Spellbinders Foliage from green patterned paper.  Assemble and arrange flowers on front cover and adhere with glue dots and dimensional adhesive to support petal shape.  Add Mod Podge to foliage and adhere to front cover.  Cover with two more layers of Mod Podge allowing dry time between each.

7.    Adhere Sandy Lion Silver washi tape along binding edge to cover paper edge on both back and front covers.  Washi should be 12" long so ends will secure inside the covers.

8.    Place Art Institute Dries Clear Adhesive to centers of flowers and add Suze Weinberg's Diamondz in Onyx.  Allow to dry overnight and shake off excess.

Happy 17th Birthday

It is sketch time at Retro Rubber Blog Challenge for the next two weeks.  Sketches are fun because I love seeing the different interpretations of the sketch elements. 

  We recently had a birthday at our home and this is the card I made my son that was inspired by the sketch.  I used some REALLY old stamps and not so old to create this card.

 

1.    Ink Fiskars (2000) Birthday Type with two colors of Imagine Crafts Radiant Neon in Electric Blue and Electric Green.  Stamp on white cardstock and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.  This stamp was originally designed to be used with a roller, a little surgery with scissors and I was good to go with just an acrylic block.  Ink the edges with Electric Blue

2.    Die cut two sizes of Spellbinders Stars from white cardstock and pressure emboss with embossing mat.  Ink larger star with Ink Blusher in Electric Green and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.  Stamp "17" in Electric Blue with Clearsnap Magna Stamp Parisian, from 1992, these really needed some inky love!  Then heat emboss with clear embossing powder.  Ink edges with Ink Blusher which allows you to get into each corner easily.

3.    Pressure emboss white cardstock with Spellbinders Seth Apter Laser Beams.  Ink diagonal areas alternating Electric Green and Electric Blue.

4.    Use an Ink Blusher to ink the edges of the base card with Electric Green and Electric Blue.

5.    Assemble card and adhere panel and stars with dimensional adhesive.

6.    Stamp Technique Tuesdays Say It Happy "to you" in Electric Blue
