Happy Birthday to my Plane loving son!

Busy week of card making in my craft cave!  My youngest son turned nine on Wednesday!  Yeah!  This is the fifth birthday we have had the privelege of celebrating with him, as we adopted him from Russia just before his fourth birthday.  If you know my son, you understand that he LOVES airplanes . . . convenient for him as his dad builds them!  When we went to the Experimental Aviation Association’s annual event in Oshkosh, WI in the summer of 2013 we were at the very first public showing of the first Disney movie, “Planes”.  We naturally went to see “Planes Two, Fire and Rescue" in 3D and own the movie, buying it the first day it came out.  He has seen it at least 4 times since!  He wanted a “Planes, Fire and Rescue” party theme, so DH created the cake below.  The eyes are shrink plastic colored with Sharpie and StazOn ink!  The numbers and black stripes are also shrink plastic.  He was suitably impressed with his Dusty cake!

I have been going through my stash and using old and new supplies tools recently and this is no exception.

1.     I trimmed white card stock to 6 ½ “ x 10” and folded in half.  The black card stock is 3 ¾” x 3 3/4” and is pressure embossed with Darice Diamond Plate Pattern embossing folder.
2.     The image is stamped on white card stock trimmed to 3” x 3”.  My ink color charts came in very handy at this point, as I knew I wanted to use Darice blue Foamies as a die cut sentiment, and the Recollections chevron green washi tape.  “FLY HIGH” is stamped in Colorbox Midnight, and the Plane image in Personal Stamp Exchange Green.  I masked the word “plane” on the image with washi tape, inked the image and removed the tape before stamping.  Both images are from Imaginisce Let’s Roll line.  The edge is inked in PSE Green.
3.     Next out came the die cuts, Quickutz “Birthday” Shortcutz 4” x 4” die provided the script “birthday”, and Life Style Crafts (yes, the same company different name) Lemon Drop alpha was used for the “GUY”.  Run the Foamies through a Xyron X before die cutting and the adhesive will be right where you need it!
4.     To assemble the card I used a centering ruler to place the washi tape in the middle and then layered the remaining elements.

My little (rather not so little) guy loved his card and his cake.  Happy Birthday to you!
