Guest Detective for CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration Case #231

The Imagine Artists in Residence have joined forces with CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration to create a few inspired layouts.

I went back in time and found some photos of my son in one of his favorite costumes from the Halloween season.  In all honesty these costumes were worn many times after the holiday for many great play times.  These photos are from school on Halloween, the day when all the little girls were princesses and the super heroes were saving them during recess . . . that will be the other side for this layout when I have the time!

I choose to work the the following prompts in the Evidence:  Stripes, bow, and stars.  Captain America is a big one for stars!  I started by punching the Royal Blue cardstock with EK Success border punch before adhering it to the Primary Red cardstock.  The red is die cut with Spellbinder's Cascading Stars, and several sizes of Standard Circles Large and Small to create embellishments.  The Royal Blue cardstock is also die cut into a circle to complete the Captain's shield.  Momenta's Cut & Emboss Stars is used to embellish the center of the shield with Canson Silver paper.  Another layer of silver paper is used in the shield.  The star embellishment is layered stars along with the craft thread tied in a bow.

The star background strips are made with Buttery Yellow cardstock pressure embossed with Darice's 12" x 2" Assorted Stars embossing folder.  The surface is then inked with Memento Danube Blue.  Turquoise is embossed with The Paper Studio's Small Stars embossing folder, the surface is inked with Memento Lady Bug.

Since I didn't have any striped paper on hand that was coordinated with the color scheme I decided to stamp my own.  Memento Danube Blue and Lady Bug along with Versa Magic Sea Breeze are stamped on the buttery yellow cardstock with stamps from the TPC Studio Dots & Stripes set.

The Testimony was quick and easy!  The title is stamped in Memento Lady Bug on the Turquoise cardstock with Scrappy Cat's Playful Serie.  The Buttery Yellow cardstock is cut into strips and journaling is done in Memento Dual Tip Marker in Danube Blue.  The journaling is written with exclamations and with inspired words of Super, Awesome, and Wow.

Do stop by CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration and check out the layouts with a Super Hero theme.  Today is Superman's birthday after all!

Blended Memento Ink for a Birthday Card

The challenge for the month at Imagine was to incorporate blending into a project.  I love how Memento Inks can be blended with water or Ink Potion No. 9.  I also think it is really cool that the Fireworks Sprays are in the same colors, so it was quick and easy to put together this fun color coordinated card using Joy Clair stamps, Imagine's cross promotional blog hop partner for May.  Using a stamp positioner I stamped the card front and two additional layers with StazOn Jet Black ink.  The top two layers are die cut into circles.  The top layer is water colored with a small paint brush and Memento in Danube Blue and Grape Jelly.  The next layer is inked with an Ink Blusher and Grape Jelly.  The bottom layer is splatted with the Fireworks in you guessed it, Danube Blue and Grape Jelly.  A little secret here, I accidentally marked the top layer with a splotch of ink, but was able to cover the splotch with the strategically placed happy portion of the sentiment.  Once dry the card is assembled with dimensional foam adhesive.

Color My World Congratulations

Time for a new challenge over at Retro Rubber!  Go check out the cool cards created for this color challenge.

I choose to go with a sketch from CAS(E) this sketch and keep the card look simple.  It is graduation season and a few congratulations with a few balloons will do the job nicely I think!

The balloon image is from Hampton Arts set released in 2015, but I couldn’t find a name on the set.  It is actually a birthday set!  The sentiment is from the 2014 Fiskars Simple Expression set.  The balloons are stamped directly on the card front in Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The images are colored with Fireworks Sprays.  I tapped a little on my craft mat and picked up the color with a small paint brush.  I didn’t have a teal color but a mix of New Sprout and Bahama Blue created a great teal!  New Sprout and Lulu Lavender complete the coloring.  The stars are punched from cardstock and colored in the same manner.  The sentiment is stamped in Versa Mark on Black cardstock and heat embossed with Detailed White Embossing Powder.  The stars and sentiment are adhered with dimensional foam adhesive.  The card didn’t really look festive enough so I tapped on the Fireworks Sprays from spray tube to create splats.  After mixing the color for the teal I did the same with a small paint brush.  This card will be in the mail soon to a lucky graduate!

Come join us a Retro Rubber and play along with this challenge.  Remember to use a stamp at least 1 year or older and list how long you have had it in your stash.  We also ask that you enter up to 10 challenges including Retro Rubber's #63.  Thanks!

Imagine and Joy Clair Blog Hop

Imagine and Joy Clair are sponsoring a wonderful blog hop.  Follow along and have some fun seeing great projects using products from both.

I choose to work with Joy Clair’s Anchor of Hope Bible Journaling stamp set.  It worked perfectly for Psalms 69: 14-15.  I started by prepping the page with Creative Medium in Shimmer.  Not even the darkest Versa Magic ink or underlining with Memento shows through to the other side.  When applied in a thin layer with a foam brush the CM dries within 15 minutes.  I stamp the various images with a bit of masking, and then ink in texture with a dry sea sponge.  Memento Dual Tip Marker in Paris Dusk underlines the passage.  Enjoy the rest of the blog hop!

Imagine
Versa Magic—Wheat, Sahara Sand, Jumbo Java, Midnight Black, Tea Leaves, Aspen Mist, Turquoise Gem, Ocean Depth, Night Sky

Other

Foam Brush

Thanks so much for stopping and be sure to leave comments (one per blog) during these two days of hopping so you can be entered to win a one of two $25 Joy Clair Stamps Gift Cards or one of two $25 Gift Cards from Imagine!!! Winners will be announced on the Joy Clair and Imagine Blogs at the end of the month.

Guest Designer for Paper Girls--Yellowstone Road Trip

I was asked to do a Guest Designer Gig for Paper Girls, and I had a blast creating this two page layout with the recipe for the challenge!

What a fun challenge to use 4 patterned papers, 3 wooden elements, 2 inks and 1 stamp!  I started by looking at the wooden elements I had in my stash and came up with these fun Little Yellow Bicycle Travel wood shapes.  I recently acquired Die Cuts With a View Adventurer paper collection, so with those choices in mind I decided to create a two page layout of our quick trip through Yellowstone National Park.  We made a last minute side trip into Yellowstone and hit the major sites in just 6 or 7 hours!  The papers picked up the reds and oranges nicely and complemented the other colors of nature nicely.  I had a great amount to say in my journaling, so the computer was the best way to accomplish that task.  The edges of the papers are inked with Memento Luxe Morocco ink.  The “1-stamp” is the title, and is actually Junkitz Sketchy alphabet along with Fiskars When In Roam set.  These images are also stamped with Memento Luxe Morocco ink.  The internal parts of the letters were colored in with a second ink in Peanut Brittle from a Memento Dual Tip Marker.  It was difficult to narrow down just a few photos, but I think I captured that quick Road Trip through Yellowstone nicely!

Flower Time!

It is spring time and the flowers are finally starting to bloom here in Central Oregon!  Our newest challenge over at Retro Rubber is celebrating just that!

Come join us with your Flower inspired project!  Remember to use at least one stamp that is more than a year old and to enter 10 or fewer challenges including RRBC!

My Day Lilies are not blooming yet, but I was inspired to use a set from Heartfelt Creations called Sunrise Lilies released in February 2016.  The HC paper collections include a number of panels just for card making, so I decided to use a pre-made card front with wonderful printed layers.  The Sunrise Lilies were stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Fantastix in Versa Magic Mango Madness and Persimmon.  The leaves are colored in Tea Leaves and Sage.  The stamens are die cut from black cardstock and the tips are touched with the smallest amount of On Point Glue.  The tips are then dipped in Recollections Flock in Coral followed by Art Institute Ultra Fine in Sedona Sun.  I tied a section of sage ribbon from my stash in to a double looped bow using the Bows-It-All-V2 to finish the embellishments.  The "Thanks a bunch" is also by Heartfelt Creations from their Heartfelt Expressions sentiment stamp set from December 2010.  It is stamped in Versa Magic Tea Leaves with a bit of Versa Magic Sage lightly sponged over the top.  After adhering the card panel to the card base I inked the edges in Tea Leaves.  Even with shaping and assembling the flowers the card took about 30 minutes to complete.

Please come join us at Retro Rubber and enter your own spring inspired flower creation!  Do check out the rest of the Design Team’s wonderful creations as well!
